1.
Enter, these weary waters Too long they’ve beaten the earth – Never to bring peace again Embittered, spiteful foam To wander, to be carried forth As dead carrion wash ashore – No purpose, no flight, no instinct As they submit to cold malignance What moved now lies still What loved now is dead I pray not for redemption I pray for nothing at all For what decrepit vision of god Made in imperfect countenance Could atone for such failed creatures Made of ash – made of weakness? Swept away to distant waters... To fail to secure hedonistic want does not true failure make To endure, to breathe when breathing stings is our calling – our purpose So here, at these rocks, taste bitter defeat and know this is not the end Inevitable sharp rocks cut deep and takes my broken words A sermon to true existence A curse to the bestial soul To endure, to breathe Look to the ocean – knowing not what comes or What was and only – only what is true Take these ashes – take these dreams of worlds to come Only self remains – only what is true
2.
Tainted Soil 06:33
Lament not For their souls They are lost to reason, lost to love, lost to hate Bestial lust Overcomes Willingness to live a life of meaning, a life of worth Pitiful Roaches clamor Spewing foul decay Wallow in emptiness Wallow in shame To the ground, to the grave Degenerate disease Never to find solace Never to find peace To the ground Worthless Cleanse the soil of pestilence, filth and disease Tread not on this tainted earth where vermin feed This world of hateful, lustful urge and deceit This is not our calling and only leads to defeat
3.
To Forget... 08:10
A life not lead lies obscured Beyond broken branches Amidst the shallow, desperate forest floor What secrets have you buried? What trodden earth has been lost to the relentlessness of time If we only had more time Hope of a better future drawn away As dew from a tender spring leaf We walk on Forget me. Open not your weary eyes to gaze upon A visage that once brought you joy Sleep while wide awake Cast aside these fleeting delusions Of a past long dead And a future buried beneath my mistakes My mistakes... Forget me
4.
The Grotto 06:19
I hear the call; the spectral voice of the sea I heed the call; traverse the low-tide path To the grotto’s mouth; beyond the water’s edge To the barrier; between this world and the next Step by step, these weary pilgrim’s feet Draw ever closer to the precipice of my defeat Flee man’s reality To seek refuge In the embrace of earth The bramble draws me in Chasing remnants of distant, weary light Sharp, dead horizon; the wisp’s luminescence Take now this offering, left upon the soil Take now these weary bones, I slowly slip away Upturned roots now shift Into chaotic forms Branches strangling Merciless as the depths From which we emerge And now shall return Malignant blackened waves Carry me onwards
5.
Transfixed in lunar meditation By black void bridging the stars Celestial womb entropic splendour Stars above, a call from afar An eruption of light consumes void and vision Conscious sundered from husk of the flesh A mountain of storm surges below Soaring peaks meet infinite sky depths Lighting, coursing, fire! Transforming vestigial form Unfurling, unmasking, pyre! Ascendant spirit reborn A final cradling tempest Receives the vessel Life and death’s spring Where infinite life begins A spark in the vastness Shining and boundless Traverse light chasms Radiates pure in destruction
6.
Sentinel 06:56
Shrouded in misery I stand on the edge of this abyss Fading heart, hollow Silent and still Solitary sentinel gazes inward Inner emptiness consumes all Hope fades with the growing dusk For the heart fails, pierced by - By the bleakest of wisdom For all our myths, symbols and promises - Are dust, shackles and chains The gateway opens before me A path to liberation And as the sun sets I lay on cold ground Through aeons of nothingness, I hear the earthen echo The song of cavern and loam To carry me home
7.
Lucidity 11:05
Dragged down by weighty night Hollow, weary eyes - fixated The world moves faster Time is a wheel Every second Every hour In this endless haze of doubt The world moves faster Dragged into pits of disillusion Dreams of nothing I am lost to this world Truth means nothing more than human delusions Self-defeating, self-deceiving, self is death We are but whispers in the wind Realize now, all we have is suffering I am released from this blinding, white light To find elusive, fleeting reprieve from chaos Empty and hollow is the path towards the sun Instead we fall as constructs ill-contrived Into abyssal onslaught of self-hatred Folly is man, a monument to nothingness Must we all die for this empty illusion? A monument to nothingness Break free from this fog These mists of obstruction No longer to be cast aside I wake from this deep, dark slumber Break from old, trodden path Towards the land of being No longer will I wallow In this pit of despair Every second, every hour I will spend in pursuit of meaning

about

On their debut full-length, Through the False Narrows, Liminal Shroud takes inspiration from the surging ocean and mist-strewn coast to explore themes of futility, passage, and individual and metaphysical transformation. With a three-piece format, Liminal Shroud’s sound is stripped-back yet immersive, with expansive guitars underpinned by a driving and dynamic rhythm section; kindling a form of black metal surging with atmosphere and anguish, melancholy and rage.

As the skies turn grey and dense fogs hang above the shoreline, Liminal Shroud will expel a swirl of melancholia and torment over its moss-strewn forests and perilous waves.

Take these ashes – take these dreams of worlds to come
Only self remains – only what is true.

***

Atmospheric without falling into the trap of relying on extended ambient passages, crushingly heavy without falling back on simple speed and fury, Liminal Shroud have put out the perfect soundtrack to a bleak, dark autumn.
-Angry Metal Guy

"‘Through the False Narrows’ achieves a crawling, tightly performed and intense bonding of post-metal, depressive black metal, and atmospheric black metal ideals without losing the plot to tunnel vision or indistinct movements. With this sort of trailing upward, looking downward craft the artist’s intent is everything and this is where Liminal Shroud achieve something special and evolved yet still raw around the edges"
-Grizzly Butts

"Liminal Shroud have crafted black metal that is capable of becoming as turbulent as ocean whirlpools and crashing waves, but is also palpably atmospheric, providing channels for despair and fury, for the darkness of grief and the fires of defiance."
-No Clean Singing

"Sitting somewhere between lush, atmospheric domains and scream-laden dungeons, Through the False Narrows is musically in a hybrid state not unlike the coast the band is physically located on. "
-Invisible Oranges
